Lessons from a Disappointing Meeting

I thought external force created my reality, but I was wrong.

Last Friday, I met an alumnus of the internship program I had joined.

It wasn’t a bad experience, but I was a bit disappointed by the alumnus’s attitude towards her life. I was expecting this over-achiever would share her passion for fostering gender equality, child rights and development with me.

Instead, I became her dumping ground. She complained about the Taylor management style of the company, the problems of moving out, not earning enough money, and much more. I didn’t expect that.

I saw her as a pathetic woman who lacked the courage to overturn her destiny. Although she was doing something she found meaningful, she wasn’t satisfy with the income.

I tried to consolidate her by offering different advice, and she turned down all of them.

In the end, I found that she didn’t want to improve her situation. She was looking for solace from people. But her reaction also inspired me to borrow a book in the library.

Reading this book completely changed my life attitude towards life.
