Transformative Winter Experiences: Embracing the Unknown

The Buddha that can save people from pain and suffering

Leaving the train station, (as I mentioned in yesterday’s blog post), I soon got into a taxi and arrived in a hotel near a skiing resort. The host of the hotel was a Chinese guy.

After explaining that the hotel was for immigration, we talked about many things, including Hong Kong’s future and the quality of young people in China.

“To be honest, I am quite pessimistic about Hong Kong’s future. It has already passed its prime, and the situation is only getting worst. “, I said.

“Oh, really. “, he replied.

“Many young people can’t find a job.*”, I said.

*Now I become one of them. 😑

The rest of our conversation was too depressing to be posted here. At last, I offered him an advice–

Sending his son to study overseas and leaving Asia for his own good

The next day, I left the hotel and visited the skiing resort. I didn’t plan to try skiing since I didn’t have enough money to try it. Yet, I couldn’t resist the temptation of stepping on the snowy surface and lying my body on the snow.

I bought a ticket to take the gondola to the middle of the mountain.

To my surprise, as soon as I boarded the ski gondola, the sudden jolt of weightlessness nearly sent me into a panic. Thousands of terrifying possibilities flashed through my mind: the cable snapping, the gondola stalling mid-air, or a powerful gust of wind tearing us from the line and sending us plunging into the abyss.

Although I looked calm, I was scared to death in the inside.

While I was panicking about the possibility of a rare accident, my thoughts were pulled away by the grand mountains around me. Snow-flocked trees stood on the snowy slopes, filling the vast white space of the mountainside.

Their vast numbers and the layers of shadow created by the bright sunlight left me speechless. Occasionally, a cool breeze wafting into the gondola through a small gap would wake me from this dreamlike state.

Achieving my goal

Finally, I reached my destination.

It was a small area designed for visitors who were not planning to ski. There was a big family throwing snowballs at each other. Many skiers were nearby too.

In this place, I didn’t have to worry about being hurt by some unknown spiky things under the snow. I found a snowdrift and let my whole body fall on it.

Soft. Relaxing.

Closing my eyes, I immersed myself in the feeling of “bathing in the snow”.

I couldn’t believe I successfully achieved my goal, even though it wasn’t the craziest thing happened in this 8-days trip.

(to be continued…)
